ABSTRACT

Our physical condition determines what kinds of jobs we can do, for how long, to what degree, and how safely. High blood pressure limits the amount of stress one can endure. Poor eyesight or hearing will decrease work options. Managing emotional health successfully is complementary to maintaining good physical health. Poor emotional health directly affects blood pressure, weight gain and loss, stress, and heart disease, among other conditions. With physical health, we often have a healthy organ or other body part to compare with the unhealthy one. That's not as easily done in psychological health. The World Health Organization's definition: "a state of well-being in which [an] individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to his or her community." Intellectual health is a function of the ability to crisply bring the critical thinking skills to the pivotal issues.
