ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to lay out the foundation for effectively dealing with the risks that have been uncovered with the use of risk assessment. Safety management is a legal obligation of the manager/owner towards his/her employees. In the European Union (EU), legislation, legal acts and court decisions constitute the body of European Union Law. The EU Labour Law prescribes the rights and obligations of employers and workers at the workplace. According to OECD: Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are non-subsidiary, independent firms, which employ less than a given number of employees. This number varies across countries. Occupational, Health and Safety Management System should be considered as part of the management systems of any organization. The economic realities and staffing levels in an SME are not always great. The smaller the organization - in many occasions - the bigger are the obstacles.
