ABSTRACT

With great interest in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) as a dietary supplement and food application in the past few decades, it is important to understand not only its biological functions but also the potential adverse health implications. This chapter summarizes CLA’s effects on preventing cancer, reducing cardiovascular disease risk, preventing obesity, improving muscle metabolism, improving bone health, and modulating immune and inammatory responses. In addition, currently identied potential adverse health implications with CLA, impaired glucose homeostasis, increased oxidative stress markers, liver dysfunction, and reduced milk fat are reviewed.
