ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on renewable energy: what it is, how it works, what forms of renewable energy are currently available for use and which ones are on the horizon slated for use in the near future. It examines each in turn: solar, geothermal, wind, hydropower, biofuels, and even secondary sources, such as electricity and hydrogen, in an effort to determine which direction humans need to take in order to protect the landscape and keep the environment as healthy as possible. The chapter looks at each one of the renewable energy sources in turn, focusing on their potential as sources to provide viable energy for a sustainable future. Renewables also provide jobs for the economy. Most renewable energy investments are spent on materials and workmanship to build and maintain the facilities, rather than on costly energy imports.
