ABSTRACT

During the last two decades, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has increased drastically among the population of Cyprus. This has caused an alarm among healthcare professionals. A lot more emphasis is given now to ASD by more specialists who are trying to deal with ASD with different kinds of treatments. Another question to be answered is whether today more children are being affected or whether there are more children being detected with autism. The most possible answer is that both stances are under scientific investigations, but the definite outcome is the obvious increase in autism cases worldwide. Many children with autism are facing various physical problems such as gastrointestinal (GI), nutrition, and other problems. Different studies have been performed throughout the years that look at the many factors, such as medical, nutrition, and behavioral, that affect children with autism and how they contribute to the children's overall status.
