Amalie Emmy Noether (1882-1935)

Emmy Noether was born in Erlangen, Germany to a talented Jewish family. She attended the University of Erlangen, and completed her doctoral work in 1907. Subsequently, she held positions at the Mathematical Institute of Erlangen, then at the University of Gottingen, where she worked with David Hilbert and Felix Klein. In 1932, due to Nazi oppression, she was forced to leave Gottingen, and was granted a professorship at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, a position she held until her death.
