ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents an overview of key concepts discussed in preceding chapters of this book. The book highlights most of the current waste management regulations and policies that are not linked to resource conservation or ecosystem protection. The cost-benefit analysis is the most widely accepted concept for economic appraisal and for designing regulatory framework/policy options and would, therefore, be the ultimate driver in terms of the feasibility of a specific reuse or recycling technology or route. The book also highlights the need for product market development, techno-economic environmental impact risks analysis and the development of standards and regulations. Putting all these information together suggests that there is a need to have a more strategic and synergic approach in dealing with the waste material for maximum benefit. The book illustrates some of the potential approaches in attaining value from mining and metallurgical waste material.
