ABSTRACT

Chapter 12 discusses the use of numerical analysis to calculate both the factor of safety using the stress reduction method (SRF), and the displacement of rock slopes. The analyses can incorporate continuum and discontinuum geology, isotropic and anisotropic conditions, two–dimensional/three–dimensional models and both Mohr–Coulomb and Hoek–Brown rock strength criteria. Other analysis topics include rock bolting, rock brittle fracture, long-term stability and slide runout prediction.
