ABSTRACT

Chapter 14 discusses the methods of stabilising rock slopes. First, preparation of rock slope inventories and methods of developing hazard rankings to plan stabilisation programmes are discussed. Methods of stabilisation are categorised as rock reinforcement, removal and protection. Reinforcement includes rock anchors, shotcrete, buttresses, concrete grillages, drainage and ‘shot-in-place’ buttresses. Removal includes resloping, unloading, trimming and hand scaling. Protection includes ditches, barriers, fences, attenuators, mesh, warning fences, rock sheds and tunnels.
