ABSTRACT

Large interfaces can be designed at three different levels: personal, participatory, and environmental. A personal-level interface could be the size of a tablet, desktop, or anything else that interacts one on one with users. In addition, large interfaces may have two purposes: sharing information to educate and a playful interface to entertain. Narrowing down unlimited possibilities may require adding an engineer, industrial designer, or even an interior designer to the project. If the interface is outside, in a public space, the project may need an environmental designer or architect. The Poverty Tracker was designed for the large-screen web. When a user accesses it on a small screen, the interface informs the user that the experience would be better on a larger screen. The Poverty Tracker website has a gridded layout with information that could be extremely difficult to understand from raw data alone.
