ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and data management methodologies. It begins with an overview of raster storage formats to establish a common understanding of uniform data organizations. It then moves into point cloud formats, the standard storage organization for LiDAR data. A brief overview of the LAS data standard is presented, followed by recommendations for managing data in production scenarios. This chapter concludes with an overview of emerging trends in LiDAR data as well as a detailed discussion on the most recent edition of the LAS 1.4 Standard.
