ABSTRACT

An effective training and development program is a great tool that has been associated with employee retention. An effective training program can be costly; however, it is necessary for business to have the resources needed to compete in a global economy. A training needs assessment is used to identify whether training is the appropriate action to take to correct a specific performance problem. There are several methods that can be used to deliver quality training that is effective. There are times when classroom training is appropriate as a stand-alone method or as long as it is supplemented with other training methods such as on-the-job training (OJT), mentoring, coaching, and job shadowing. Although training may represent addition challenges for Lean work environment, it can be accomplished through extensive creativity, planning, and strategizing on ways to ensure workers receive the required training. When leaders invest in continuing educational opportunities for employees, they are investing in the company's future.
