ABSTRACT

The main role of user research is to evaluate a game (or an app, a website, a tool interface, etc.) in terms of its ease of use and its propensity to engage players. User researchers will ruthlessly track down as many usability and “engage-ability” issues as possible and offer fix suggestions for the development team to consider. They can help developers challenge their curse of knowledge, take a step back, and see their game from a new perspective (the one of their target audience, who will be discovering the game). Their main mission is to identify the barriers getting in the way of a compelling user experience, while keeping in mind design intentions and business goals.
