ABSTRACT

There are interesting web-based projects developed by the Cybermetrics Lab research team, which is part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), which are being carried out several years ago and are called the Webometrics Rankings. The rankings are as follows: Ranking Web of Universities, Ranking Web of Repositories, Ranking Web of Hospitals, Ranking Web of Research Centers, Ranking Web of Business School, and Ranking Web of Researchers. Bibliometric studies aim at the quantitative assessment of science through scientific publications, which is why they currently provide the fundamental tool for the evaluation and knowledge of the research science activity. The chapter discusses the interdependence between informetrics–bibliometrics–scientometrics–cybermetrics–webometrics within the information science area, geared by the model of Bjorneborn (2004). The foundation of the Informetrics field is attributed to Otto Nacke, who proposed it for the first time in 1979.
