ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses several aspects of Data Analytics and Scientometrics that apply to U-Multirank (UMR). It describes the dimensions and the indicators, how the data are collected and verified, and how the data are presented and are shared in an innovative user-friendly web tool. The chapter explores the development of the UMR web tool and presents the distinctive features to measure the performance of higher education institutions (HEIs). UMR has been developed based on a number of design principles, User-driven, Multidimensionality, Comparability, Multilevel nature of higher education, and Methodological soundness. UMR provides a multidimensional ranking both on the institutional and on the subject levels. UMR therefore offers two levels of rankings. For the institutional and the subject ranking, five dimensions have been identified, and for each of these dimensions, indicators have been selected to measure the performance of HEIs. The choice of indicators was highly stakeholder driven.
