ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the emerging situation, what this means within the context of business, and looks at the complexities involved. It also looks at some of the scientific explanations about some of the assumptions and values we hold dear, particularly in view of our motivation/incentive system, values and money, and how to transform them. The chapter also explores some of the consequences for leadership training. The neuroscientific, clinical and contemplative research points towards the fact that with appropriate cultivation and mind training, attitudes, mental qualities and behaviours can be changed. The chapter draws on different aspects of sustainability, the need for identifying and changing mind-sets and the importance of teaching and educating inner values. It focuses on the connections between organisations, purpose and values. The chapter concludes with an appeal to take interdependence seriously for personal and social well-being.
