ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the world of art and cultural institutions represents a dynamic environment with large numbers of public citizens and high value assets, which requires sophisticated techniques of theft and damage protection and prevention. It evaluates the unique situation of educational security as it relates to myriad threats that must be protected against from theft and assault to natural disasters, active shooters, and terrorist threats. The chapter compares and contrasts the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program and the Congressional Research Service programs for school security and discuss their viability. It recognizes the unique challenges encountered in the safety and security of religious centers and devise prevention and detection recommendations for each unique setting and describes the interplay of security and emergency in the hospital setting, and recognizes the maze of regulatory processes that need navigated, as well as the bureaucratic nightmare that must be navigated.
