ABSTRACT

The private security industry plays in integral role in the prevention, deterrence, and detection of theft and property offenses in a host of institutional settings, so much so that few sectors of the American economy do not encounter the many services offered. This chapter recognizes that hotels have become favored targets for terrorists due to the widespread impact the destruction causes and list recommendations to protect these facilities. It recalls the key vulnerabilities of US lodging industry and applies them as necessary. It discusses how security firms take the lead in the day-to-day operations event security, operating under the direction of team leadership, and in coordination and partnership with public police entities, and demonstrates an understanding of the complex security challenges commonly faced in event security and applied in a global, massive customer-based setting. The chapter identifies the unique security challenges faced by malls and other retail establishments, and addresses recommendations for the safety and security of these environments.
