ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses two important studies: those are the first one is deterministic and another one is probabilistic. It provides an individual lamina is fundamental to control the failure initiation and propagation in the laminate. The probabilistic analysis and reliability prediction of the system is carried out using Gaussian response surface method and the validity of the method for the present problem is establish using Monte Carlo simulation procedure. Sensitivity analysis of the probability of failure with respect to random parameters considered is an important study for design optimization. Probabilistic response assessment is strongly recommended by various international codes especially to achieve challenging design targets for satisfactory service and survival. The probabilistic approach is significant to assess the safety of composite armors. The progressive probability of fiber failure of antisymmetric cross ply arrangement for simply supported composite beams is least as compared to other lay-ups studied.
