ABSTRACT

This chapter is focused on the theoretical framework in which the empirical research had been undertaken. The theoretical framework has been built upon the significant knowledge regarding the Soviet industrial organisation developed by Azrael and Berliner, and regarding the Hungarian communist economy and society studied by Kornai, Szelényi and others. The main features of the communist industrial enterprise are framed into the model proposed by Burrell and Morgan. The political sociology of state socialism developed by Lane and Burawoy’s perspective on socialist industrial relations are used to position the communist industrialisation policies and practices within Burrell and Morgan model.
