ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes briefly the main achievements of the Visegrad Group. It focuses on some dividing issues, while assessing their impact on the future development of the Visegrad cooperation. The chapter describes future geopolitical constellation of Central Europe. There are no doubts that the biggest priority for Visegrad countries was their integration into the European Union. The accession into the European Union can be considered an achievement of individual countries, as well as the Group's success. The integration process as such showed that solidarity – declared as one of the leading principles of the Visegrad cooperation – also had a practical meaning. A sober assessment of past achievements of the V4 provides some reasons for future optimism. However, it would be idealistic to expect all V4 countries to speak with one voice; there will always be differences in a broad range of issues.
