ABSTRACT
The importance of solidarity is exemplified best by the current debates within and among Eropean Union member states, South and East European member states are begging for the solidarity of better-off Western and Northern European countries. In addition, solidarity has been an issue for several nation states as well. The Hungarian government elected into power by a landslide victory at the 2010 parliamentary election has been determined to strengthen solidarity among Hungarians which, they hope, could also help the country to overcome the economic crisis. As the examples of past economic crisis suggest, the scarcity and declining well-being strengthen social tension. The Orban government has been trying to boost solidarity by strengthening national feeling. The most interesting part of the document is the "Declaration of National Cooperation", a one page summary of the main principles which, according to a government decree, must be displayed in every government building.
