ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the aims, scope and structure of the book are set out:

Part One (chapters one and two) will offer critical readings (both historical and spatial) of the present situation of religious education (RE) in schools, colleges and higher education, with particular reference to the UK, but also relevant to many other international contexts where this framing predominates.

Part Two (chapters three - five) outlines a variety of different starting points that enable a reimagining of RE beyond existing frameworks.

Part Three (chapter six), in terms of remediation, proposes a new theoretical framing and practice of inquiry based on the foregoing investigations, and outlines a new heuristic.
