ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, some of the key themes of the book are summarised. Firstly, there has been an emphasis on the educational in RE; an attempt to encourage what is transformative in the widest possible engagement with difference beyond the rigidities of the existing framework. Secondly, there is an emphasis on how this analysis of the current settlement might help initiate a new tradition of inquiry, drawing schools, colleges and universities together to kindle new thinking about practices in RE. New educational practices, such as ‘becoming ethnographer’ develop a series of additional critical capacities that are future-oriented. Our hope is that these questions and the approach suggested will serve as a springboard for practitioners to take up these questions and in the light of this, we gesture towards the possibility of articulating new research agenda.
