ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the period from the early 2000s to the year 2015; however, the political changes are taken into account, even though it adds a layer of additional complexity to the challenges of conceptualisation and analysis of the study's subject, which is a new and evolving process. Agriculture was officially identified as a priority domain for exchange with African countries during the 'Brazil–Africa Dialogue on food security, the fight against hunger and rural development', which took place in Brasilia in 2010. However, exchanges in the field of agricultural modernisation had been taking place between officials in Brazil and African countries, particularly Mozambique. The analytical framework aims to 'make heard' the voices of southern actors and recipients of international norms, while avoiding the risk of strengthening 'culturalist' theoretical frameworks. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
