ABSTRACT

The objective of gang prevention is to rectify the social imbalance in society. Gangs undeniably commit crimes and are a menace to every United States citizen; issues are increasingly changing and impactful of Criminal Justice policy and procedures. Recidivism rates in the meantime continue to rise, with up to half of all new prison inmates incarcerated for reoffending after their initial release. Criminal justice professionals must identify vulnerabilities within those communities, in order to implement predictive gang prevention programs. Predictive gang prevention programs have no clear consensus on which model is most effective. The age-old question on why someone would join a gang started when caveman banded together to hunt, gather, and protect. Disenfranchised African-Americans and other ethnic minority groups in American society banded together to maintain their way of life. The gang cycle has three phases: prevention, intervention, and suppression. The overall goal is to rectify the social imbalance in society and eliminate the chaos gangs.
