ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide an overview of the importance of physical activity to the overall health and wellbeing of people living with serious mental illness and how social factors need to be first addressed in this population in order to afford them the opportunity to become active and healthy. By exploring how health equity can guide future research in physical activity for people living with serious mental illness, this chapter concludes with recommendations on how researchers can use their expertise to advocate for policy changes to establish programmes to address broader social determinants of health in this population
