ABSTRACT

Block Truncation Coding (BTC) is an efficient lossy image compression technique. Its compression quality is good but the compression ratio is low, only 2 bits/pixel. Image block also has a certain correlation while taking into account the similarity between the image blocks. With the rapid development of the social network, a huge amount of digital information data needs to be transmitted over the network, especially images and videos. The BTC algorithm is simple and easy to implement. It can realize fast encoding and decoding and result in good compression image quality. There are a large number of uniform parts in an image, such as the background area. The uniform block refers to the block with little difference between pixels, and the image block is encoded by BTC. For a smooth image, a large compression ratio can be achieved and the reconstructed image quality is better.
