ABSTRACT

The budget to a large extent determines the scope of your work. The budget often times dictates the types of methods that you can undertake in your research. Everything in the budget must be justified by the work you propose to do, and vice versa. This chapter focuses on overall budgeting strategies and understanding the parts of the budget typically included in grants. Advice is given for determining a reasonable project budget, understanding indirect costs, how to list matching funds, and what to include in a budget justification.
