ABSTRACT

Freedom is the possibility of self-realization of the individual and the society, based on choice. There are laws of liberty, and there are laws of tyranny. The laws of liberty are rules for successful action. The laws of tyranny are rules that are artificially imposed on people and challenge their traditions and experience. The more members of a society have the chance for self-realization, the more complete is their freedom in that society. Freedom presupposes that initiative, criticism, and even dissent remain unfettered. For human self-realization to take place, it is essential to be able to transform words and intentions into action. Freedom appears in the context of the culture of a particular society or group whose members are working together to achieve a particular goal. "Man is not born free, but is born to freedom". Freedom is defined by cooperation. There is no freedom without solidarity.
