ABSTRACT

Sophocracy is ennobled democracy. The basic feature of democracy is freedom. Democracy is a political system based on self-government. Democracy consists of a number of autonomous but related and cooperating institutions. The salient characteristics of democracy are the separation of religious institutions and the institution of the state, the independence of scientific and economic organizations, the self-government of territorial units, and local autonomy. Proper democracy, as opposed to flawed democracy, which is a populist or a totalitarian democracy, is one of the correct political regimes. Proper democracy, like other correct political regimes, implements principles of justice. Sophocracy—democracy proper and ennobled—combines within itself freedom and wisdom. At the basis of sophocracy, proper democracy, there is wisdom, freedom, and nobility. Sophocracy awakens civic spirit. The basis of civic spirit is the emotional involvement of citizens in the affairs of their own country, resulting in practical involvement in grassroots initiatives.
