ABSTRACT

As the increasing use of digital text has resulted in the integration of multimodal texts in composition curriculum, the current discussion on multimodal composition revolves around including digital tools in writing assignments. While this approach leads to more engaging writing classes and active student participation, creating multimodal work can be quite challenging, as teachers and students may not be equipped with the necessary digital skills and cognitively familiar with multimodal assignments that require them to employ digital, text-based, and online resources. While composition teachers have the responsibility to equip their students with expertise or skills necessary for creating multimodal text, institutions bear the responsibility of assisting their faculty with digital skills. Therefore, writing departments should cooperate with media or IT departments in order to create a shared curriculum that will help students gain multimodal skills and writing teachers necessary technical skills.
