ABSTRACT

In practical problem-focused rational emotive behavioural coaching (PPF-REBC), coachees have a practical problem for which they are seeking help. This chapter outlines one such framework called 'PRACTICE', devised by the British coaching psychologist, Stephen Palmer. It briefly summarizes the framework and focuses on its 'PR' elements, which detail how to help the coachee identify the problem ('P') and then set realistic goals ('R'). The chapter also focuses on the 'ACTICE' elements of the framework and describes the steps of addressing the problem with a view to solving it. The coach then helps the coachee set goals in relation to the target problem the coachee can realistically work towards and that would make a real difference to them. A relevant goal is one that, if achieved, will make a real difference to the coachee given where they currently are in their life with respect to the problem.
