ABSTRACT

A list of camera equipment and accessories will provide the novice- or intermediate-level photographer with sufficient flexibility to allow effective photography of any crime scene or item of evidence. The list contains: Digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera; Lenses; Flash unit; Ring flash; Flash cable; Camera battery; Battery charger; Tripod; Scales; Filters; Camera bag; Memory card; Memory card reader and/or universal serial bus cable; Software; and Placard. A zoom lens will allow one to zoom in or out at the scene, changing the focal length of camera lens. A detachable flash unit is a must to ensure sufficient light coverage. Rotating flash heads are also very useful and highly recommended. Ring flash units are very helpful for close-up work; they serve to help reduce hotspots and evenly distribute the light. A polarizer filter reduces glare and is especially useful when photographing through glass. This filter can also help protect the lens from scratches.
