ABSTRACT

Digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, as well as some lesser expensive non-single-lens reflex cameras, provide photographers with a variety of shooting modes, also called exposure modes. These shooting modes allow the photographer different levels of control over the camera functions that control exposure. Exposure meters can be seen through the camera viewfinder/eyepiece lens when the camera is in manual shooting mode. Four main camera variables affect exposure: International Organization for Standardization (ISO), aperture size, shutter speed, and ambient light. With a bit of practice, photographers will be able to use each of these to achieve the correct amount of light. Most high-quality flash units have display panels that provide various information to the photographer. Once photographers gain experience, he/she will be able to use this information to select the proper settings to maximize his/her efficiency in obtaining the correct exposure.
