ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors' methodology follows a least intrusive to most intrusive pattern by beginning with photographs that document the scene in general terms and then by paying particular attention to items of evidence and other key features. The case identifier photograph is especially important when images from multiple scenes will be stored on a single piece of storage media. As one might imagine, however, attempting to determine the specific location and purpose of each photograph may be difficult if one is attempting to analyze the photographs months, and, in some cases, years, after the photographs were taken to. An important step that will help alleviate this problem is the use of a photograph log or memo sheet. The purpose of this document is to memorialize each photograph taken at the crime scene. The log or memo sheet, if properly constructed, will be extremely useful for investigators who later examine photographs for investigative purposes.
