ABSTRACT
The birth of the environmental radioactivity as an independent scientific discipline can be dated to around the 1950s. In fact, it goes back to those years when there was widespread diffusion all over the world of the radioactive dusts injected into the upper atmosphere by the nuclear explosions of a large number of bombs detonated by the USA and the USSR during the early stages of the Cold War from 1945 to 1963.
