ABSTRACT
In 2002 the European Union approved Environmental Noise Directive 2002/49/EC (END) [1] in order to assess and manage environmental noise. END represents the main EU instrument for identifying noise pollution levels and outlines the actions needed to solve the related issues at the EU level. The directive defines a common approach in order to avoid, prevent or reduce the harmful effects, including annoyance, of exposure to environmental noise.
