ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows that Colin Holmes was keen that it should be a festschrift and not a memorial volume. It presents the twenty-four essays that are testament to the stimulation of his work, including his inspiration as a teacher and supervisor. The book shows what emerges most strongly from each of these contributions is that however much progress has been made in unearthing new histories, new sources and new approaches is that the people are still in the infancy in studying the inner lives of migrant groups in a British context and the wider significance these have in defining that elusive concept of national identity. Colin continues to research and write and to do so powerfully as his masterful study of William Joyce and co-edited volume commemorating the life and achievements of Bill Fishman amply illustrate.
