ABSTRACT

This chapter is based on one school’s experience of implementing a multicultural policy. It is of particular interest as the school was virtually all white. Multicultural education in all-white schools is a topic of some concern. Most local authorities, have produced policy statements which urge schools to engage in fundamental change, in recognition of the fact that ‘the problem facing the education system is not how to educate children of ethnic minorities but how to educate all children’ (Swann Report 1985: 363).
