ABSTRACT

At Keele U n i v e r s i t y we have r e c e n t l y undertaken a major DES-funded enquiry on I n -Se rv i ce Teacher Educat ion i n a M u l t i - R a c i a l Soc ie t y , and t h i s Chapter presents a very smal l p a r t of our f i n d i n g s f o r cons ide ra t i on . The o r i g i n s of our work and the mo t i va t i ons f o r i t are t o be found i n the con tex t of the House of Commons Working Par ty f o r the E r a d i c a t i o n of Colour P re jud i ce . Indeed, a concern f o r the e l i m i n a t i o n of p re j ud i ce was a dominant f ea tu re throughout the concept ion and under tak ing of the a c t i v i t y , as the preamble to our o r i g i n a l paper made c l e a r .
