ABSTRACT

The issue we address in this book is that of ‘race’ and education; more specifically how, in that respect, schools might provide a fair and just education for all their pupils, how they might counter racism, and how they might promote multicultural perspectives. The urgency of the issue is underlined by the increasing incidence of racial unrest and disorder, increasing evidence of the permeation of racism in society, and of the part played by education in promoting inequalities and divisions.
