ABSTRACT
Campus design warrants attention because many older buildings can no longer serve their function, changing demographics will create competition for students through the turn of the century, and, finally, college and university campuses are in poor physical condition today. Rapid growth and inflation have caused deferred maintenance and constructed buildings of poor quality. In recognition of this factor, most American campuses propose to enhance their physical condition through restoration, renewal, or replacement in the coming decade. While campus planning methods are often used to guide physical development, it is useful to consider linking design, behavior, and participatory planning methods in establishing the campus plan agenda.
