ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book brings together a collection of writings on Cyberpsychology. Cyberpsychology is a field of study that is primarily focused on how we interact with others using technology. The book examines how our behaviour is influenced by technology, and how we may be affected by such technologies. Email communication has become a tool to deliver therapy and provides psychological support for many mental health professionals. The number of professionals providing online therapy is growing and the need for sound evidence on how it affects the therapeutic process and its outcome is compelling. Homophobia, and its different forms of online expression, was the subject of Leo Carroll's work. His study investigated the referral of derogatory words used by heterosexuals towards gay men offline and online.
