ABSTRACT

A dream image is not a direct form of communication, like a statement. It is indirect. When feelings about a situation are not yet conscious, the situation cannot be represented directly in a dream. Instead, the dream will refer to another, different situation that has provoked feelings similar to the ones that are still unconscious. The feelings provoked by the substitute situation are already conscious or perhaps closer to awareness and not as disturbing as the feelings that are still unconscious. Dreams are not only an integral part of our mental beings, but are also wholly concerned with the issues of our lives. However, they speak from a deep unconscious system of the mind that operates entirely without our awareness, and whose contents reach awareness only through disguised or encoded images. All unconscious information is not part of the deep unconscious system.
