There Is a Plurality of Understandings and Realizations of the Concept of “Human Dignity”

If we understand dignity and other human rights as ideals that do not need to be described or founded by arguments, then they cannot be applied to the facts as concepts and will not be functional in social discourse. Different understandings of the concept “dignity” are presented and discussed: indivisibility of Human Rights, dignity as a realization of justice and different philosophical schools (natural, deliberative, protest and discourse school). My contribution to the foundation discourse of philosophy on the concept of dignity and Human Rights consists in the use of language philosophy to claim the founding function of the individual speech-acts of ordinary people, women, men and queer, for dignity and Human Rights.
