ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces this book overall and accounts for what the book covers and each chapter deals with. This chapter states that this research is an investigation of the performance of IPO in Korea in an rapidly changing time which is https://dot.com">dot.com bubble and bust period, 1999–2001 and that it examines the scale and nature of IPO activity and the factors affecting IPO performance in the short run and over one and two years after IPO, particularly focusing on the impact on short and long-term performance of the extent of venture capital involvement in the IPO, and of the ownership characteristics of the venture capital companies themselves. The author argues that these and related governance issues have been a major concern of scholars of international comparative financial systems. This chapter also emphasises that this research compares outcomes in the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ stock market conditions before and after the stock market crash of March 2000.
