ABSTRACT

Making use of the results of performing a simple static tension test on materials, this chapter presents stress–strain relations describing the following behaviors: elastic–perfectly plastic, elastic–strain hardened, and practical power laws of stresses versus strains. Tresca and von Mises yield criteria and practical strain hardening rules (isotropic, kinematic, and independent) are discussed as well as strain and complementary strain energy densities and their applications.
