ABSTRACT

Presented in this chapter are elastic and plastic solutions of plane stress and plane strain problems using rectangular and polar coordinates including bending of a curved beam, cantilever beams subjected to various loads (concentrated force, uniformly distributed and hydrostatic). Solutions of the compatibility equation in polar coordinates are developed and used to obtain solutions to semi-infinite solids subjected to vertical and horizontal loads on the boundary, wedges subjected to line loads at the apex and bending by end couples, rotations of circular disks (solid, annular, variable thickness, and uniform strength), and stress concentration factors around holes in bodies.
