ABSTRACT

In this chapter we offer a range of coaching and mentoring dilemmas. These scenarios are organized into four categories that look at different ethical challenges: Confidentiality, Boundaries, Conflicts of Interest and Dual Relationships. As supervision ethics are grey areas, some of the coaching and mentoring dilemmas include such thought-provoking topics as confidentiality, cultural attitudes, managing multiple stakeholders or coaching or mentoring people from the same team. We invite the reader to consider if and when these are appropriate from their perspective through providing a number of multiple choice options as a catalyst for peer discussions. These activities are designed to broaden the peers’ perspectives and stretch their thinking, offering different options for consideration that can be applied to future scenarios and perhaps our coaching and mentoring industries.
